Whenever I carve a pumpkin (and I pretty much do that EVERY HALLOWEEN), I take a lot of photos.
In the day, in the night, behind, in front, inside, outside. A LOT of photos.
I think it's an obsessive desire to record the moment and document the passing of time.
Waxing philosophical about this---I only carve a pumpkin once a year. And when I do, it's a temporary artwork. It is of the moment. Despite my best efforts, as soon as the seeds are scooped out, the orange sculpture begins to rot. Ecologically that's a good thing--- I'm not loading up the planet with more plastic. But any effort to hold on to what is inevitably a march to the compost bin, is futile.
Halloween, as an ancient festival, originally was a festival of the dead. And with each passing one we all shrug off being one year closer to shuffling off our mortal coil... or our own compost bin.
Boy that went to a dark place, eh?
Where were we?
Ah, the video, yes!
This video was cranked out to make my own self-imposed deadline of a video-a-day and so I went through my digital files for ideas and, in seeing how many photos I took of this particular carve, I thought "Geez. It's like a pumpkin fashion show."
DING! IDEA!
